She is the Curator of Discursive Practices at Haus der Kulturen der Welt and runs the exhibition programme between 2025 and 2026 at Shekmai Space with Echo Shi. Qu received her PhD in 2024 from the Cultural Studies Department at Lingnan University, Hong Kong. Her doctoral research focuses on the discourse of “love” in China's reform era. Previously, she served as a curator at Para Site, Hong Kong. Her curatorial projects include L is for the way you look at me (2025-27, HKW), Woven Lotus (2025-2026, Sekmai), Follow the Feeling (2024, Guangdong Times Museum), Café do Brasil (2019, Para Site), Crush (2018, Para Site), among others. In 2022, Qu and Ye Hui initiated the long-term project Linger in Sounds, an artistic research that probes into the structure of feeling in contemporary China through the audio and visual productions of popular music. Since 2021, she is a member of 楔 xiē. Together with Hao Jingban, Shen Xin, Yunyu “Ayo” Shih, they presented the exhibition To Bind, Embed, Shimmer, and Brace at DAAD Galerie, Berlin (2022). Her video and textile installation Happiness Hometown (2025) was presented at the 1st Bukhara Biennale, curated by Diana Campbell. Ye Hui is an artist and composer based in Vienna. 2004-2011 studied composition and electroacoustic composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduated in 2011. 2010-2018 studied Digital Arts and TransArts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, graduated in 2018. She works with different media including experimental documentary, video and audio installation, and often address the social-political aspect of the act of listening and to examine the fluidity of individual’s social identity, as well as its reflection in technology and sonic culture. In her most recent projects, the subject matter of (digitalised) voice is essential for her research. Ye is laureate of the Kunsthalle Wien Prize 2018 and a co-founder of Mai Ling, a queer-feminist Asian artists’ collective. Her works have been recently presented at Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna Secession, Belvedere 21 (AT), the Jim Thompson Art Center (TH), Lothringer 13 (GE), WRO Media Art Biennial (PL) and Times Museum (CN). This cave-like, textile architectural form invites visitors to enter, lie down, and remain. Inside, light slowly cycles through shades of white, yellow, and pink - colours associated with warmth, care, and restoration. The light sequence unfolds slowly, deliberately extended to stretch the visitor’s perception of duration. Time ceases to rush. The pavilion was designed considering the existing architectural context and extending it with textile. Different layers of fabric were cut in organic shape to reference archaic form and softening the rigidity of the surrounding structure. The results are two spaces - one within and one revealing the rhythm of time architecturally. Within the Pavilion of Time, time is no longer something external. The visitor is not passing through time, but remaining within it. A shift from spending time to taking time. The pavilion proposes an experience away from urgency and toward duration - a way of being with time that aligns more closely with natural rhythms such as breath, tides, or seasons. (Still) Tuning and a midsummer night’s strings Elisabeth left us the strings from her June performance, Tuning. For several days, each time I passed the strings casually hanging beneath the balcony or next to the staircase, it felt as if the wall behind me stirred and the sound lingered. Then one day, when a gust blew the front door shut, the blonde horsehair of Carapacewhispered a complaint, and the gallery felt suddenly so quiet that the tension in this fluffy sculpture screamed for the strings to be activated again. Upstairs, the woven silver sculptures remain a soothing presence—for both humans and the architecture—as they always are. The August concert is for everyone holding strong in the city, or just back from a family holiday. The sun’s working overtime everywhere anyway. Luckily, BEK stays cool: thick walls, shaded terrace. Why not add some music? Framed by the spatial and bodily resonance in Elisabeth’s work, this concert marks the first in a series that BEK organizes with Musiklabor Klassik.
